When COVID-19 hit, it served as a roadblock to the release of the introductory issues of Ghost Machine Comics’ many publications. For years, the creators who joined forces to establish the industry’s first creator-owned comics had hinted at conventions about The Unnamed Universe. The pandemic delayed the introduction of most of the universe until 2024.
What Happened in 2024?
With sequestration largely over and teams of people returning to work, the creators at Ghost Machine debuted the gamut of The Unnamed Universe. Here’s a quick recap of how comic book lovers got to know the characters in the instantly immense Unnamed Universe:
- Ghost Machine (One-Shot), January 24, 2024
- Geiger (2024) #1, April 3, 2024
- Rook: Exodus #1, April 3, 2024
- Redcoat #1, April 3, 2024
- Tales Of The Unnamed: The Blizzard TP, Vol. 1 (Collected Editions), July 24, 2024
- Hyde Street #1, October 2, 2024
- The Rocketfellers #1, November 20, 2024
- Hornsby & Halo #1, November 27, 2024.
Although many of the comics introduced came to fruition by traditional teams of writers, illustrators, and colorists, Geoff Johns, founder of the publishing company, brought in writers from diverse backgrounds, too.
TV Writer Moves to Comics
Case in point: The Rocketfellers, which debuted on November 20, 2024, features scriptwriter Lamont Magee as its writer. Magee authors comic books, although he’s better known for his work on CW shows like television shows, including “Black Lightning,” “All American: Homecoming,” and “Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures.” The television writer and producer penned the story of an extended family from the future who time travels to the past to hide from a threat that could end the world.
Veterans Paired with Young Up-and-Comers
Veteran colorist, Brad Anderson works on four of the company’s comic strips:
- Geiger
- Redcoat
- Rook: Exodus
- Hyde Street.
Anderson launched his career in 1996, and in this creator-owned endeavor, he partners with relative newcomers like scriptwriter Maytal Zchut, best known for penning the CW’s “Stargirl.” Zchut authored an issue of Hyde Street, making her comic book writing debut in the process.
Anderson’s other partners at GMC include fellow comic book veteran Ivan Reis, who spent about 20 years at DC Comics before relocating his talents, and long-time Marvel artist Gary Frank. Whether you love historical fiction graphic novels like Redcoat or science fiction like Geiger and Rook: Exodus, Ghost Machine Comics offers it. It probably debuted in 2024, and you won’t need to wait long for the next issues since Johns and his creative partners deftly worked throughout the pandemic, writing, drawing, and inking.
